It was in April 1973 that the Biochemical Society first published Biochemical Society Transactions with Managing Editor Professor Brian Beechey at the helm. Over the intervening 40 years Biochemical Society Transactions has captured the exciting science presented at the Biochemical Society Main Meetings, Annual Symposium, Focused Meetings and Independent Meetings supported by the Society as a series of mini-reviews.
To celebrate this anniversary the Journal’s Executive Editor, Ed Elloway, has selected 40 papers from the archive. This collection includes many of the Society’s prestigious medal lectures from such high-calibre researchers as Honorary Member Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, previous Chairman Professor Martin Humphries and Nobel Prize winner Sir Paul Nurse.
Recent highlights include:
2012 – Biochemical Society Award. Calcium signalling remodelling and disease, Michael J. Berridge
2013 – Keilin Memorial Lecture. The ATP synthase: the understood, the uncertain and the unknown, John E. Walker
The papers provide a fascinating insight into biomolecular research over the past four decades and are now freely available until the end of 2013.
