News from Gemma Garrett and Jane Thomson our Education Team visiting Uganda.
We’ve been in Uganda almost a week a now and the trip has been a great success so far. We are looking at ways to expand our work with schools using our SciberBrain resources.
We flew from the UK to Kampala last Tuesday, knowing we were promoting SciberBrain at a Headteachers’ conference later that day and there were 30 teachers attending. It turned out there were over 50 Headteachers and they were very supportive of all the resources we had to offer. In Kampala we also managed to secure a meeting with the Ministry of Education and Sports. They were really supportive of our project and keen for it to succeed.
On Friday we travelled to Mbarara for our DNA Masterclass, which was attended by 87 children from 10 schools. The event seemed to be a big success and we’re following it up with school visits over the next couple of days.
By the time you read this we will have travelled to Bukinda (2 hours SW) where the Royal Society of Chemistry and Institute of Physics have a teaching centre and there are two schools that came along to our Masterclass.
The rest of the week will be made up of school visits and then we’ll be coming home on Wednesday – see you soon!
