BBSRC Funding Opportunity in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) has recently announced a call for applications addressing the challenge of:
The Generation of Hydrocarbons from Living Organisms

BBSRC is looking to encourage high quality, multidisciplinary applications that aim to develop novel or improved biological processes for the production and / or isolation of products from biological feedstocks that have the potential to be used for the production of advanced biofuels, lubricants, platform chemicals, high value chemicals or their biological intermediates. A consideration of the energy efficiency and sustainability of the process will be important.

A one day town meeting will be held on 2 November 2011 in London, registration closes 19th October.  This event will provide more detailed information on the rationale behind the highlight notice and present opportunities for networking with potential collaborators and interested industry representatives.  BBSRC has worked with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to organise this meeting.

The closing date for this Highlight Notice is the 11th of January 2012BBSRC aims to announce three highlight notices over the period 2011/12.
